COMMONWEALTH GAMES: Boxer Joseph Commey advance to last 16

Joseph Commey sailed through to the round of 16 in the Men’s Featherweight after beating Betaro Aaree from Kiribati over the weekend.

The 21-year-old keeps hopes alive of the possibility of winning a medal.

Commey now joins Omar Walid as Ghana’s two boxers to advance in the competition so far after female boxer Ornella Sathoud and Abubarkar Quartey all lost their fights, coupled with a ban on Samed Shakul who failed an anti-doping test.

Ghana still has six more boxers yet to fight in the competition.

Welterweight boxer Jesse Lartey who won Ghana’s only medal in 2018 is yet to fight and will be hoping to better his performance in Birmingham.
