Ghana’s 4×100 relay team set new National Record at World Athletics Championship

Ghana’s 4×100 relay team finished 5th in the finals of the Men’s relay race at the World Athletics Championship.

Despite missing out on a medal, the team managed a time of 38.07 to set a new National record.

The team made up of Sean Sarfo-Antwi, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Oduro Menu and Joseph Paul Amoah finished behind eventual winners Canada, USA, Great Britain and Jamaica.

The record previously set in 1997 by quartet Abu Duah, Eric Nkansah, Aziz Zakari and Emmanuel Tuffour was broken at the 2021 Africa Games when Sean Sarfo Antwi, Benjamin Azamati, Emmanuel Yeboah and Joseph Amoah smashed the record to set a new after making a time of 38.08.

A year on, the same quartet this time with Joseph Oduro Manu replacing Emmanuel Yeboah set another after making a time of 38.07.

Team Ghana managed to seal though to the finals after finishing third in the semi-finals.

Ghana thus misses out on every medal after Long Jumper Deborah Acquah also failed to advance to the next round of the competition having only made a jump of 6.45m.
