The Ghana Volleyball Federation (GVF) has celebrated its recent successes on the national and international stage and appealed to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for increased support to further develop volleyball in Ghana.

A delegation led by GVF President George Tettey, Esq., together with Women’s National Head Coach Abdul Rahman Danladi, Team Manager ASP Bernice Timbila, officials and players, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry to present the federation’s achievements and share its plans for the future.

Among the federation’s notable accomplishments is Ghana’s gold-medal triumph at the CAVB Zone 3 Nations Cup in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Ghana also secured medals at the Africa Youth Beach Cup in Saly, Senegal, while the national teams earned silver medals at the CAVB Zone 3 Beach Volleyball Nations Cup in Badagry, Nigeria.

The teams have further represented Ghana in the Road to Los Angeles 2028 Series and World Championship qualifiers, demonstrating the country’s growing presence in international volleyball.

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, accompanied by Chief Director Mrs. Fati Lily Soale and other ministry officials, congratulated the federation, athletes and technical teams on their achievements.

Hon. Adams emphasized the importance of sustained investment in sports, noting that properly supported sports can play a significant role in youth development and national progress.

“When sports are properly supported, the youth of this country will flourish,” the Minister said, while commending the GVF for its efforts to promote volleyball and other sports that often receive less attention.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing sports infrastructure across the country, citing President John Dramani Mahama’s recent pledge to construct 10 mini-stadia with multipurpose facilities to support grassroots sports development.

According to the Minister, the President and Vice President have also expressed strong interest in supporting all sporting disciplines, including volleyball, through increased funding and improved infrastructure.

Hon. Adams called on stakeholders to work together to mobilize resources for the sports fund, stressing that greater investment in so-called “lesser sports” could unlock significant opportunities for young athletes.

He further commended the Ghana Police Service for recruiting sportsmen and women into its ranks and encouraged other security agencies to adopt similar initiatives to support athletes while providing them with career opportunities.

Addressing the volleyball players, the Minister praised their commitment and sacrifices and urged them to remain disciplined, dedicated to training and receptive to the guidance of their coaches and technical teams.

“You can reach whatever height you aspire to. Keep listening, stay focused, and continue to soar higher,” he encouraged the athletes.

The Ghana Volleyball Federation’s latest achievements are seen as a strong indication of the sport’s potential in Ghana, with the federation hopeful that increased government and stakeholder support will help sustain the momentum and prepare the country’s teams for greater success on the continental and global stage.
