SAD! Ghana Football Loses One of Its Own

9 0

Ghanaian women’s football is in mourning following the death of talented winger Gifty Akonnorbeah Dwamena, who passed away after a short illness.

Dwamena spent the 2025/26 season with Epiphany Warriors FC, having joined the club from Sissamba Ladies Football Club. Before that move, she built much of her football journey with Faith Ladies Football Club, where she spent three seasons and made 37 appearances in the Ghana Women’s Premier League – Southern Zone, scoring around six goals along the way.

Her time at Faith Ladies also brought major silverware, as she was part of the squad that lifted the Ghana Women’s Premier Super Cup — a career highlight that reflected her growing impact on the domestic game.

News of her passing has left a deep void across Ghanaian women’s football. Teammates, coaches, clubs, and friends have paid tribute to a player remembered not just for her ability on the pitch, but for her dedication and commitment to the sport.

Dwamena’s death is a painful loss to everyone who knew her and worked alongside her throughout her football journey. She will be remembered as a promising talent whose career, though cut short, left a lasting mark on the women’s game in Ghana.
