Medeama SC have started the 2026/27 season with silverware after defeating MTN FA Cup holders Nations FC 2-0 to lift the Champion of Champions trophy at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa.
The reigning Ghana Premier League champions produced a controlled performance on Sunday, August 30, to overcome Nations FC and lay down an early marker ahead of the new campaign.
Medeama broke the deadlock in the 28th minute after a defensive lapse from Nations FC handed them a penalty.
Defender Fatawu Sulemana made no mistake from the spot, calmly sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to put Medeama 1-0 up.
Nations FC came out after the break with greater attacking intent, searching for a way back into the contest. Medeama, however, remained disciplined and continued to threaten on the counter.
The Mauve and Yellows eventually doubled their lead in the 61st minute through new signing Emmanuel Annor, who marked his competitive debut with a superb finish against his former club.
With a two-goal cushion, Medeama managed the remainder of the game effectively. Nations FC pushed forward in search of a response, but the Premier League champions stood firm to seal a convincing victory.
The win adds another trophy to Medeama’s growing collection and gives them their second major domestic honour of 2026, following their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League triumph.
More importantly, the victory provides a timely confidence boost as Medeama prepare for their CAF Champions League campaign.
The Tarkwa-based side will host Congolese giants TP Mazembe in the first leg of their preliminary-round tie on Sunday, September 6, at the TNA Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
With the Champion of Champions trophy already secured, Medeama will head into their continental assignment riding high on confidence as they look to make their mark on the African stage.
