Kwasi Sibo has hit the jackpot. From earning €830,000 a year at Real Oviedo, the Ghana international is set to earn a whopping $5 million annually after completing a shock move to Libyan champions Al-Swehly in a deal worth $10 million over two years.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder, who left Oviedo as a free agent following their relegation from La Liga, travelled to Cairo on August 24 to undergo his medical as Al-Swehly prepare for the CAF Champions League preliminary round. While reports initially suggested a three-year deal, the final agreement is understood to be a two-year contract with a total package of $10 million, including a luxury apartment in Misrata. Even after tax deductions that could reduce the net value to around $7.5 million, it represents more than a six-fold increase on his Spanish salary and makes him one of the highest earners in Libyan league history.
It caps a whirlwind month for Sibo. After leaving Spain, he revealed offers from the English Premier League and Saudi Pro League, with Turkish side Gençlerbirliği and Egyptian giants Al Ahly also pushing hard for his signature. Al-Swehly, however, won the race, viewing Sibo as central to their continental ambitions after being crowned Libyan champions last season.
For the former Cheetah FC man, the move comes at the peak of his powers. Sibo made 26 La Liga appearances last season and played every one of Ghana’s four games at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including 90 minutes against England, logging 249 minutes in total.
From fighting relegation in Spain to leading a CAF Champions League charge in North Africa, Sibo has turned resilience into reward and secured generational wealth in the process.
