Medeama Sporting Club’s CAF Champions League campaign came to an end on Saturday after they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Congolese giants TP Mazembe in the second leg.
The reigning Ghanaian champions had suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in the first leg in Tarkwa and travelled to Lubumbashi hoping to overturn the deficit and secure progression to the next stage.
However, Medeama’s hopes were quickly dashed as TP Mazembe raced into an early lead. Patrick Mwaungulu opened the scoring in the third minute before Josue Kazema doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 19th minute.
Mwaungulu completed his brace in the 77th minute to put the Ravens firmly in control and effectively seal their passage to the next round.
Medeama managed a late consolation through Dominic Amponsah in the 89th minute, but it was not enough to prevent their elimination.
TP Mazembe progressed with a 4-1 aggregate victory, while the result marked the end of Medeama’s continental campaign.
The Ravens will now face either Club Africain or Djoliba AC in the next round.
Medeama, meanwhile, will turn their attention to domestic football as they seek to defend their Ghana Premi
er League title.
