Ghana’s national beach soccer team, the Black Sharks, secured a resounding victory in their bid to qualify for the 2026 CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), defeating Nigeria’s Sand Eagles 5–4 in a penalty shootout following a 4–4 draw.
The first-leg fixture saw both teams exchange momentum in a highly competitive contest. Ghana’s offensive effort was anchored by Mawuli Sosu, who scored two goals, alongside a strike from Wise Nyamadi and a Nigerian own goal.
After remaining tied through both regulation and extra time, the Black Sharks demonstrated exceptional discipline to win the shootout 5–4, gaining an important advantage in the two-legged qualifier.
The second leg will take place in Keta, Ghana, where the team aims to finalize qualification for the tournament scheduled to be hosted in Senegal later this year.
