Antoine Semenyo has officially struck gold. The Ghana forward has been named in the 2025/26 PFA Premier League Team of the Year, becoming the first Ghanaian in history to make the prestigious XI voted for by his fellow professionals.
It is the ultimate reward for a season that had everything. Semenyo began the campaign as Bournemouth’s main man, hitting 10 goals and 3 assists in the first half of the season and establishing himself as one of the most unplayable attackers in the league. That form forced Manchester City to act in January, securing his signature in a blockbuster move. He didn’t slow down at the Etihad, adding 7 goals and 1 assist under Pep Guardiola and picking up an EA Sports Player of the Month award for February along the way.
In total, Semenyo finished the Premier League season with 37 appearances, 3,196 minutes, 17 goals and 4 assists, numbers bettered by only a handful of players in the division. He was also nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season and helped City lift both the FA Cup and EFL Cup.
More than the stats, the selection is historic. For over three decades of the Premier League, great Ghanaian names like Tony Yeboah, Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan and Jordan Ayew have graced the league, but none had ever cracked the PFA Team of the Year. Semenyo has now broken that ceiling.
From academy rejection at 14 to Premier League Team of the Year at 26, Semenyo’s journey from London to Bristol to Bournemouth and now Manchester is complete. Ghana’s new talisman is no longer just a prospect as he is among the very best in England.
