Ghana Bounce Back with Revenge Win Over Algeria

Ghana’s Golden Shuttlers recorded their first victory at the 2026 BWF World Junior Championships in Cairo, Egypt, delivering a commanding win over Algeria in the Mixed Team Relay competition to put an end to a three-match losing streak.

The victory carried extra weight for the Ghanaian youngsters. Having previously fallen to Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, and Azerbaijan in the group stages, Ghana entered the tie driven by a desire for redemption against the same Algerian side that recently denied them a place in the All Africa U-19 Championship final.

The Golden Shuttlers asserted their dominance early, taking the opening game 55–24 before closing out the second 55–29 to lock in an emphatic 2–0 victory.

Under the championship’s Mixed Team Relay format—where athletes compete as a unit across multiple badminton disciplines with cumulative scores deciding the tie—Ghana’s disciplined performance earned them a well-deserved turnaround on the global stage.

The win provides a crucial morale boost as Ghana prepares to face Austria on Thursday at 6:00 AM GMT (9:00 AM local time), where they will look to build on their momentum and secure back-to-back victories.
