Bibiani Gold Stars FC are hopeful of securing the services of former Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku ahead of the upcoming season, with the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Akwesi Adu, confirming the forward is a key target.
Speaking in an interview with 442sportsgh.com, Adu revealed that Gold Stars have identified Opoku as a player capable of filling the void left by former striker Abednego Tetteh and providing the goals needed to strengthen their attack.
“We did our research and realised that Kwame Opoku will be able to replicate exactly what Abednego Tetteh did for the club two seasons ago. So, it is our hope to get Kwame Opoku into the club for the upcoming season,” he said.
Gold Stars are looking to bolster their attacking options as they prepare for the new campaign, and the club believes Opoku’s experience and proven goal-scoring ability could be crucial to their ambitions.
Opoku recently parted ways with Asante Kotoko following the conclusion of his second spell with the Kumasi-based giants.
The 27-year-old is currently a free agent and is assessing his options for the next stage of his career.
The striker has attracted interest from several clubs, with AshantiGold among the teams linked with his services. There have also been reports of interest from South African giants Orlando Pirates.
During his latest stint with Asante Kotoko, Opoku made 15 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing one assist.
Gold Stars will now hope to reach an agreement with the experienced forward as they seek to add more firepower to their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
