Hearts of Oak have made a perfect start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign after producing another impressive comeback victory, defeating Bibiani GoldStars 2–1 at Dun’s Park on Sunday. The Phobians showed character to recover from an early setback before goalkeeper Benjamin Asare emerged as the match-winner with a decisive late penalty save.
GoldStars made the brighter start and took the lead after just 10 minutes through experienced forward Kwame Opoku, putting the home side in front and giving Hearts an early test. The Phobians gradually settled into the contest, however, and began to find openings as they searched for a response.
Their persistence eventually paid off in the second half when Yaw Baafi restored parity. The forward controlled a superb through ball from Kwaku Boateng Henry before calmly finishing beyond the GoldStars goalkeeper to make it 1–1. The equaliser immediately shifted the momentum in favour of Hearts.
The comeback was completed just five minutes later. This time, Baafi turned provider, setting up Kwaku Boateng Henry, who produced a superb finish to send the Phobians into a 2–1 lead. Hearts had turned the game around with two moments of attacking quality after falling behind early.
GoldStars refused to surrender and mounted late pressure in search of an equaliser. Their best opportunity came when they were awarded a penalty, presenting them with a golden chance to rescue a point. But Benjamin Asare stood tall, producing a crucial save from the spot to deny the hosts and preserve Hearts’ advantage.
The final whistle confirmed another three points for the Phobians, who have now won their opening two league matches. Hearts began the campaign with a 4–0 victory over Berekum Chelsea and have followed that result with a hard-fought away triumph, scoring six goals while conceding just one across the two matches.
The victory is even more significant given GoldStars’ formidable record at Dun’s Park. Hearts have not only maintained their perfect start but have also demonstrated the resilience required to win difficult away fixtures. The Phobians now sit at the summit with six points from two matches, while GoldStars remain without a point after their opening two games.
For Hearts, the early signs are encouraging. Baafi’s goal, Boateng Henry’s decisive contribution and, above all, Asare’s penalty heroics combined to produce a victory that could prove important as the season develops.
