Defending champions University for Development Studies (UDS) have underlined their credentials as one of the leading teams at the 12th All Africa University Games in Cairo, Egypt, after securing a commanding 4–1 victory over the University of Hertfordshire to finish top of Group B and advance to the semi-finals.
UDS entered the decisive group encounter with qualification firmly in their sights and delivered a performance befitting the reigning champions. The Ghanaian side controlled proceedings and produced four goals to seal a convincing victory, while also demonstrating the attacking quality that has made them one of the tournament’s standout teams.
Leading the charge was Ezideen Alhassan, the goal king of the 11th All Africa University Games held in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2024. The prolific forward once again showed his class on the continental stage, scoring a brilliant hat-trick to spearhead UDS’s emphatic victory. His performance further underlined his importance to the champions as they continue their quest to retain the title.
First-year student Nuhu completed the scoring for UDS, marking his first appearance for the university at the tournament with a memorable goal. His contribution adds another positive dimension to a UDS squad blending experienced campaigners with emerging talent.
The 4–1 triumph confirmed UDS as Group B winners and secured their place in the semi-finals, keeping their title defence firmly on course.
With the group stage now conquered, the defending champions turn their attention to the knockout phase, where the margin for error will be significantly smaller. UDS will be hoping their combination of experience, attacking firepower and emerging talent can carry them one step closer to another All Africa University Games crown.
