Ghana Faces Must-Win Clash Against Canada to Keep U-17 World Cup Hopes Alive

Black Maidens head coach Joe Nana Adarkwa has emphasized that his side has no margin for error as they prepare to face Canada in their final Group B fixture at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The high-stakes encounter kicks off today at 3:00 PM GMT, with Ghana requiring a victory to keep their tournament progression hopes alive.

Speaking following the team’s final training session, Adarkwa reported a resilient and optimistic atmosphere within the camp, noting that the players are fully aware of the gravity of the match.

“You can see from the training ground that hopes are very high. They know what is at stake. Whatever it is, we must win. We don’t have any option,” Adarkwa stated.

The Black Maidens enter the fixture seeking to channel the grit and attacking resilience they displayed in their previous outing—a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brazil. That hard-fought point helped steady the campaign following an opening 3-0 defeat to Norway.

Adarkwa believes that polishing the tactical approach used against the South Americans will be the catalyst against Canada.

“We are going to continue what we did against Brazil and polish it so that when we get in there, we can make it. Without a win we cannot come out from the group, so we have to win, and we are going to win,” he added.

With one point from their opening two matches, Ghana’s path to the knockout stages depends entirely on securing all three points against the North Americans. As the team steps onto the pitch for this decisive fixture, the technical team has appealed for backing from the home front.

* “We need prayers and support and nothing else,” Adarkwa concluded.
