President John Dramani Mahama has allocated a total of US$60,000 from the Sports Fund to support Ghanaian clubs representing the country in the CAF inter-club competitions.
Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have been allocated US$30,000, while Nations FC will receive US$20,000 and Ampem Darkoa Ladies have been allocated US$10,000 to aid their respective continental campaigns.
The intervention provides timely financial support for the three clubs as they prepare to compete on the African stage, where clubs are required to meet significant logistical, administrative and operational costs associated with continental football.
Medeama SC, as Ghana’s representatives in the CAF Champions League, will receive the largest allocation of the fund, reflecting their status as the country’s leading representative in the competition. Nations FC are also representing Ghana in the CAF inter-club competition, while Ampem Darkoa Ladies carry the country’s hopes in the women’s continental championship.
The allocation forms part of efforts to strengthen Ghanaian participation in CAF competitions and provide local clubs with additional resources to compete effectively against some of Africa’s leading sides. The support is expected to ease some of the financial pressures associated with travel, preparations and other requirements of continental football.
The three clubs will now look to translate the financial backing into strong performances as they seek to advance Ghana’s interests on the continental stage and enhance the country’s reputation in African club football.
