Match Week 8 of the Ghana Premier League delivered an exciting round of football, with dramatic late goals, convincing victories and hard-fought draws across the various match venues.

Accra Hearts of Oak began the round with a narrow 1-0 victory over Holy Stars at the Legon Stadium on Friday.

The Phobians had to wait until the 82nd minute to break the deadlock, with Martin Karikari scoring the decisive goal to secure all three points for the home side. The late strike proved enough to hand Hearts of Oak a valuable victory as they maintained their push at the top end of the standings.

The much-anticipated Ashanti derby between FC AshantiGold 04 and Kotoko SC at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi ended in a 1-1 draw after an intense contest. FC AshantiGold 04 took the lead in the 41st minute through Samuel Boateng Fosu, giving the home supporters reason to celebrate before the break.

Kotoko SC responded strongly after the restart, applying sustained pressure in search of an equaliser. Their efforts paid off in the 63rd minute when Patrick Asiedu found the back of the net to restore parity. Neither side could find a winner in the remaining minutes, forcing both teams to settle for a share of the spoils in the local derby.

Bechem United recorded one of the round’s most convincing victories, defeating Debibi United 3-0 at home. Isaiah Nyarko opened the scoring in the 37th minute to give the Bechem boys the advantage.

Kelvin Appiah then took centre stage, scoring twice in the 71st and 80th minutes to complete a comfortable victory for Bechem United. The emphatic result earned the hosts maximum points, while Debibi United were left without a response.

Berekum Chelsea and Samartex played out a goalless draw in a tightly contested encounter.

Despite their efforts, neither side managed to find the breakthrough, with the match ending without a goal for either team. Both clubs had to settle for a point as they continued their respective league campaigns.

Bibiani Gold Stars secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Heart of Lions at Duns Park, scoring deep into stoppage time to claim all three points.

Kwame Poku put Gold Stars ahead from the penalty spot in the 25th minute, giving the hosts an early advantage. Heart of Lions appeared to have rescued a point when Stephen Afoakwah equalised in the 86th minute, setting up a tense finish.

However, Gold Stars had the final say. Godfred Arthur struck in the 90+6th minute to snatch a dramatic winner and seal a crucial victory for the home side.

Vision FC produced an impressive away performance to defeat Dreams FC 3-1 at Tuba Park.

The visitors made a blistering start, with Sherif Mohammed opening the scoring in the 11th minute before Setsofia Adjetey doubled the lead six minutes later. Sherif Mohammed returned to the scoresheet in the 26th minute, completing a dominant first-half display and giving Vision FC a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Dreams FC responded after the break, with Ibrahim Larbi scoring in the 58th minute to reduce the deficit. However, the hosts could not mount a full comeback as Vision FC held on for an important away victory.

Port City claimed a 2-1 away victory over Karela United at the Tamale Sports Stadium, with Owusu Ansah scoring twice late in the game. Ansah broke the deadlock in the 77th minute before adding a second in the 89th minute to put the visitors firmly in control.

Karela United responded through Nyaba Mahfuz in the 85th minute, but the goal was not enough to prevent the home side from suffering defeat. Port City left Tamale with all three points following a decisive contribution from Ansah.

Medeama SC secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Aduana Stars at the TNA Park to strengthen their position at the top of the league table.

The decisive moment arrived in the 82nd minute when Nana Kofi Babil scored the only goal of the encounter.

The late strike proved sufficient for Medeama, who claimed maximum points from a closely fought contest against Aduana Stars.

Swedru All Blacks earned a 2-1 win over Young Apostles on the road, scoring twice in the second half to secure an important victory.

Williams Dankwah opened the scoring for the visitors in the 57th minute before Godfred Yartey doubled their advantage in the 82nd minute.

Young Apostles responded through Mumuni Illiasu, who scored a consolation goal for the home side. However, Swedru All Blacks held on to claim all three points.
