The PFAG Black Stars Legends were walloped 6-2 by the Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) Speed Stars in an entertaining friendly at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The Speed Stars delivered a dominant performance to overcome the former Ghana internationals to lift another silverware just weeks after clinching the 2026 Bankers Football Gala title.
Number 9 for UMB Speed Stars, Ishmael Aryee, scored four times in the first half of the game to give the bankers a healthy 5-1 lead heading into the break, despite former Black Stars attacker Godwin Attram scoring a magnificent free kick to even the score at 1-1 at some point.
UMB captain and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Philip Oti-Mensah, led by example as the Speed Stars secured a convincing victory and lifted the trophy and gold medals at the end of the showcase.
The lively event featured music, food and football, creating a vibrant atmosphere for players, officials, corporate executives and fans who gathered to celebrate the game and strengthen the relationship between Ghana’s football and corporate communities.
Sammy Adjei began in goal for George Alhassan’s Black Stars Legends, while the back four of John Paintsil, Daniel Opare, Afo Dodoo, and Jerry Akaminko formed the defense. Mohammed Gargo and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu operated in midfield, with Godwin Attram playing ahead of the duo, while Yaw Preko and Haminu Dramani provided width and Kwame Ayew led the attack.
The UMB Speed Stars featured a strong line-up that included Dennis Nyaku, Kingsley Sesenu, Christian Boakye, Richard Sarfo, Patrick Afrifa, Emmanuel Essien, Adu Francis, Abdul Rahman Musa, Samuel Sackey, Akplome Agbeshie and Christian Boakye Boateng, among others.
The friendly was held under the auspices of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), bringing together some of Ghana’s most celebrated former internationals and leading figures from UMB in a football showcase aimed at fostering closer cooperation between the football and corporate sectors.
The event was graced by GFA President and CAF second vice-president Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku as the special guest and GFA Director of Marketing, Jamil Maraby.
After the trophy presentation, UMB presented a GHS 30,000 cheque to the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) led by the captain Yaw Preko.
UMB has become even more invested in Ghanaian football after signing on as the Division One League’s headline sponsor for the upcoming three years. The bank is already an official Banking Partner of the Ghana Football Association.
