The Volta Region’s hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals of the ongoing National Basic School Games in Accra have been dashed following the team’s disqualification from the competition.
According to our sources, the Volta Region boy’s team was disqualified due to an administrative error on a player who was fielded without his details being captured for the games as in both pictures and name for a particular game against Ashanti region boy’s team.
The team had enjoyed an impressive run in the group stage, finishing at the top of their group with seven points from three matches. Their campaign included two victories and a penalty shootout defeat to Ashanti Region.
However, the violation has resulted in the immediate elimination of the Volta Region from the competition.
The contingent will now return home, bringing their campaign to an unexpected end, and turn their attention to preparations for the next edition of the National Basic School Games.
The disqualification comes as a major setback for the Volta Region, particularly after the team’s impressive performance at the regional level and strong showing in the national competition before the ruling.
The development is expected to come as a disappointment to the players, technical team and supporters who had hoped to see the region progress to the knockout stage.
