Government to Build 10 Modern Mini-Stadiums Across Ghana – Sports Minister Reveals

The Government of Ghana is set to construct 10 modern mini-stadiums across selected regions as part of efforts to improve sports infrastructure and create better facilities for grassroots sports development.

Sports and Recreation Minister, Hon. Kofi Adams, disclosed that preparations are far advanced for the commencement of construction, with the project expected to benefit regions that currently lack adequate sporting infrastructure.

According to the Minister, President John Dramani Mahama initially pledged to construct six new stadiums during the 2024 general election campaign but has since reviewed the commitment, increasing the number to 10.

The regions earmarked to benefit from the project include Western North, Oti, Ahafo, Bono East, Savannah, North East, Upper East, Upper West and Volta, with the 10th location to be confirmed by the government.

Hon. Kofi Adams further revealed that the Minister of Finance has already issued the necessary commencement authorization, paving the way for the contracting process to begin.

“These stadiums will have all the other facilities, including gyms. The Finance Minister has issued commencement authorization, and we are going through the process to get the contracts awarded,” he said.

The proposed mini-stadiums are expected to provide modern sporting facilities for football and other sporting disciplines while supporting talent identification and development at the grassroots level.

The Sports and Recreation Minister made the disclosure while addressing delegates at the 32nd Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Thursday.
